A tip: Budapest is a city of two halves—Buda and Pest. In 2026, the city is more popular than ever, especially during the Sziget Festival in August and the Christmas Markets in December. Book early to secure a room with a view of the Parliament!

If you’ve been following my journey through Bratislava or Vienna, you’ll find Budapest to be the grandest of them all. It is a city of thermal baths, “ruin bars,” and imperial architecture that looks like a movie set.

Where to Stay in Budapest: My Selection of the Best Accommodations

Wondering whether to stay on the hilly, quiet Buda side or in the heart of the Pest nightlife? Looking for the best thermal bath access?

You’re in the right place!

Here is a quick summary of my favorite hotels in Budapest if you are in a hurry. Just click on the hotel name to check availability:

  • Where to stay for a first-time visit: Hotel Central Basilica – Perfect central location right next to the city’s landmark church.
  • Best hotel for music lovers & luxury: Aria Hotel Budapest – An award-winning boutique stay where every floor is dedicated to a music genre.
  • Best for “Sound of Music” level views: Hilton Budapest – Located inside the Fisherman’s Bastion on the Buda side.
  • Best for nightlife & ruin bars: Stories Boutique Hotel – Stylish, modern, and in the heart of District VII.
  • Best budget boutique hotel: Hotel Vision Budapest – Incredible value with stunning Danube views.
  • Best for a unique “Art” stay: Bohem Art Hotel – Every room is a unique art gallery near the Central Market Hall.

In District V (Belváros – The Heart of Pest)

This is the most central neighborhood and the best choice for first-timers. It’s where you’ll find the grandest buildings, the main shopping streets (Váci utca), and the most iconic views of the Danube.

I recommend this neighborhood for your stay:

  • If you want to be within walking distance of the Parliament and the Chain Bridge.
  • If you want the most convenient access to all metro lines.
  • If you love high-end dining and elegant riverfront walks.

My selection of the best hotels in District V:

Aria Hotel Budapest – from 320€ Regularly voted one of the best hotels in the world, this musical-themed boutique hotel is a masterpiece. The rooftop “High Note SkyBar” offers the absolute best view of St. Stephen’s Basilica in the city. My top pick for travelers who want a luxury splurge with a unique personality.

Hotel Central Basilica – from 115€ Located in a gorgeous historic building just steps from the Basilica. It offers a fantastic breakfast and a level of quiet comfort that is hard to find in such a central spot. The best value for a “perfect location” stay.

Hotel Vision Budapest – from 135€ A sleek, modern hotel located right on the riverbank. It’s incredibly stylish and offers rooms that look directly across the water to the Gellért Hill. Perfect for couples looking for a romantic riverside base.

In District VII (The Jewish Quarter – Energy & Nightlife)

This is the trendiest part of Budapest. It is a maze of historic synagogues, incredible street art, and the famous Ruin Bars (bars built in abandoned buildings).

I recommend this neighborhood for your stay:

  • If you want to be in the center of the world’s best nightlife scene.
  • If you are a foodie looking for the best brunch spots and “Street Food Karavan.”
  • If you prefer a more youthful, “gritty-meets-cool” atmosphere.

Best Accommodations in the Jewish Quarter:

Stories Boutique Hotel – from 120€ A design-forward hotel with a lush, green conservatory and high-concept rooms. It feels like a quiet sanctuary right in the middle of the city’s busiest district. The best choice for travelers who love “Instagrammable” interiors.

Continental Hotel Budapest – from 145€ Housed in the former Hungária Bath, this Art Nouveau hotel features a stunning rooftop pool and wellness area. It’s a bit more upscale than the surrounding bars, offering a peaceful retreat. Ideal for those who want to be near the ruin bars but sleep in total luxury.

In District I (The Castle District – History & Views)

Located on the Buda side, this is the most historic and quietest part of the city. Staying here feels like living in a medieval village, with cobblestone streets and some of the most famous monuments in Europe.

I recommend this neighborhood for your stay:

  • If you want a romantic, peaceful atmosphere away from the Pest noise.
  • If you want to wake up to the best sunrise views over the Parliament.
  • If you don’t mind a 15-minute walk or bus ride across the bridge to get to the “action.”

Best Accommodations on the Buda Side:

Hotel Clark Budapest (Adults Only) – from 190€ Located right at the foot of the Chain Bridge and the Funicular. It’s ultra-modern with a fantastic rooftop bar (Leo Rooftop) that looks directly into the lion statues of the bridge. The best pick for couples and view-seekers.

Hilton Budapest – from 210€ This is a unique architectural feat—a modern hotel built into a 13th-century Dominican cloister, right next to the Matthias Church. Request a “Danube View” room to see the Parliament glow at night. The ultimate choice for history lovers and world-class views.

My Top 3 Tips for Visiting Budapest in 2026

1. Get the “BudapestGO” App In 2026, you can skip the ticket machines. Download the BudapestGO app to buy digital travelcards. Tip: Tram Line 2 is widely considered one of the most beautiful tram rides in the world—it’s the price of a standard ticket and takes you past the Parliament at sunset.

2. The “Bath” Strategy The thermal baths are a must. Széchenyi is the most famous (and most crowded), while Gellért is the most beautiful. My 2026 Tip: Visit Rudas Baths on a Friday or Saturday night for late-night bathing with a view of the city lights—it’s a much more local experience!

3. Respect the Ruin Bar Rules The Jewish Quarter has strict noise regulations in 2026. Many ruin bars like Szimpla Kert are great for a quiet beer and photo op during the day. If you want a late-night party, head to Instant-Fogas, but remember to keep it quiet when walking back to your hotel!

Budapest is a city that never fails to impress.
